USATODAY.com - 10 suggestions to boost the Olympics
A great article in the USA Today on how to fix the Olympics. When I was a kid the Olympics were a big big deal. I think part of the reason for that is they were once every four years. This article has some great ideas, but I think the best ideas are restoring the four year cycle, using technology, and the Realilty TV idea. Imagine the Big Brother House filled with Olympians. Then maybe we would find out what in the name of Franz Klammer was going on in Bode Miller's mind.
Bode Miller had a chance to hit it big, win several medals. Unfortunately I think he was too keyed up about endorsements and being a media darling. What athlete in their right mind uses new equipment in the championship game? I've got it, the Olympics need their own Simon Cowell! I can just hear it now..."Bode, that was simply horrific. The worst excuse for a run I have ever seen...."

Yes, I'm running....
Marion Chronicle Tribune - www.chronicle-tribune.com -
After years of doing political analysis and second guessing, I'm running for office. I won't go into the why and how here, I'll probably save most of that for later. I will start a political blog soon to go with the newly refreshed timrush.com. Why I am running? I care about Grant County. I want to be involved in bringing more business and industry to Grant County. I want to make sure the people working for the county have the proper tools to do their jobs correctly and efficiently. I also want to make sure we're delivering county services as efficiently as possible. I've gotten a lot of emails and phone calls and comments from people in the short time since it was made public I'm running for office. To all of you, thank you for your very kind words. Your support and encouragement humbles me.

Alford to the Hoosiers?
ESPN.com - NCB - Katz: Getting Alford to be tricky
Is Steve Alford the answer for the Indiana University Men's Basketball program? 10 years ago, yes. Today, I don't think he's the answer. He is the sentimental favorite, but I think there are some factors against him. The biggest is that I think Iowa will do whatever it takes to keep him. If Steve Alford was asking me for advice, I would tell him "Stay at Iowa." Why come back to Indiana and fight the ghost of Bob Knight? He can create his own legacy at Iowa. He doesn't have to live up to Knight's legacy in Iowa City. In Bloomington, Alford will be compared with "The General" 24 hours a day.
Who should Indiana go after? I think Rick Majerus would be an interesting choice. But I question if Majerus is up to the physical aspect of the job. My personal favorite, former Evansville and current Army head coach Jim Crews. He is a Knight disciple. He wins wherever he goes. He's a class guy.
Even though I am a Purdue Fan, I care about what goes on in Bloomington. I think the athletic department has to get it's act together. They're still paying Cam Cameron, Gerry DiNardo, the former Athletic Director and now Mike Davis. I really thought Adam Herbert was the guy to turn IU around, I still do. But the faculty have driven him off. I think if they would have given this guy 10 years, he could have raised a lot of money and helped pump up a university on life support. In my book, anybody is a better college president than Myles Bland.
